There are some talented people out there… One of our friends from APMP very kindly emailed us a poem that she wrote whilst at the conference last week. With her kind permission, I thought I’d share it here. I’m sure all of us who were in New Orleans will relate to her thoughts; other readers who watched aghast as Katrina hit last year will also no doubt find it thought-provoking and powerful.

N’Olins
It’s the 23rd day
of May
2006
and I’m driving through
the Big Easy.
The city
is both sad
and sweet,
as my eyes take in the blend
of destruction
and renewal.
It’s hard for my mind
to comprehend the devastation
that overtook this place.
And yet,
more powerfully,
my soul is stirred
at the testimony
of the human
spirit’s
strength
This,
as the
sights
and sounds
of rebuilding
and renewal
refresh me
and my
patriotism,
or perhaps, more correctly,
my humanism.
And it is in this
humanism,
I must pause
and give reverence
and awe
to the Creator
of wind and wave.
